This Week At The Capitol In Less Than Five Minutes - January 15, 2013

Capitol Update for the week of January 15, 2013 - So far, 20 bills have been introduced in the Senate and 54 in the House. Just a fraction of the work they’ll do up here as lawmakers average more than 3200 bills a session.

Some of the bills getting attention this past week would establish a health care exchange as well as bills that would raise the minimum wage, add funding for all day Kindergarten and change the way Constitutional Amendments make it to the ballot. DFL Majority Leader Tom Bakk says it’s time to consider changing the way Constitutional Amendments are passed and says he’d like to see it require a 60 vote majority in the Senate adding that the measure would virtually ensure bi-partisanship when it comes to amending the Constitution.
